They did it again! The Sixth Annual KSLX/Sleep America “Get in Bed with Mark” Food Drive was another huge success, with a record 171,000 meals collected for the hungry of Arizona from March 21-23.
KSLX’s Mark Mayfield cuddled up in a comfortable Sleep America bed for three days, collecting food and funds from listeners who visited him near Paradise Valley Mall and eight different Albertsons Food Stores around the Valley. Once again, Classic Rock listeners didn’t disappoint, pushing the total number of meals collected during the last six years to more than 700,000.
From those who came to drop some loose change in the bins to those who donated large amounts to help feed the one in four children affected by hunger in our state, we thank you on behalf of those in need. We heard several stories of those who have turned to the food bank in their time of need and are now in position to help others and are inspired by your perseverance.
Thank you to all the folks at KSLX, Debbie Gaby and her fabulous crew at Sleep America, our friends at Albertsons and a special thank you to Alice Cooper for donating his time and efforts to the drive.
We’re off to a good start in the Sleep America/KSLX Sixth Annual “Get in Bed With Mark” Food Drive to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance.
To everyone who donated food and funds during Day 1 of the drive, we thank you for helping in the fight against hunger. There is still plenty of time to help, Mark will be at the Sleep America store today near Paradise Valley Mall (4320E. Cactus Road) and tomorrow and rock legend Alice Cooper will be in hand Friday, along with the Suns Gorilla, Suns Dancers and participants in the second annual Sleep America Bed Race.
Get into bed with Mark … and help the Food Bank with donations of non-perishable foods. Or feed seven people with every dollar donated. The time is NOW.

The sixth annual KSLX, Sleep America “Get in Bed with Mark” Food Drive begins on Wednesday, March 23. The drive collected $20,000 and 20,000 pounds of food in 2011 and has collected more than 400,000 meals over the years. This year the plans are to go even higher and set records over the three-day event. Please make plans to join Mark, Alice Cooper and a long list of local celebrities who annually stop by offering their support and encouragement.
The event will cap with the second annual Sleep America/KSLX bed race on Friday, Mar. 23 @ the Sleep America Paradise Valley location. There are still spots left for teams to join in the fun and compete for trophies and other prizes. The entry fee is $300, which will allow the food bank to distribute more than 2,000 meals to the hungry. You can use one of the racing beds in site or build one yourself!
