The Back to School Clothing Drive was a big hit serving 2,354 students that came to Grand Canyon University to attend the Back to School Clothing Drive. St. Mary's Food Bank was there to participate in this incredible event, serving all of the children in attendance with a healthy and nutritious lunch provided by our Kids Café Program. This event provides students from 140 schools the opportunity to receive polos, shorts, shoes, accessories, supply-filled backpacks, books and a dental check up to start the new year.

Students who attended were selected by their schools or districts months in advance ensuring children and families in need were the ones that participated in this event. Everything that was given to the children is brand new — from the shoes, to the backpacks, to the handmade “Stitches of Love” items.

Founded in 1967, Back to School Clothing Drive provides these fundamental items to high-need children throughout Arizona.  Through our three programs we help more than 25,000 children from 260+ schools in 40 school districts.  These programs help break down barriers to early childhood school success, build self-esteem and self-confidence, and ultimately confident, strong students ready to learn, achieve, and advance.
