Eagle Scout Tanner Jensen Collects More Than 7,000 Bottles of Water for St. Mary’s Food Bank as Summer Heat Arrives

Forget what it says on the calendar. Just look at the thermometer and you know that summer has arrived in Arizona.

Water is a very precious commodity in our state and even more so to those who don’t have access to water – the homeless and those who have had to do without utilities in their homes.

Eagle Scout Troop 694 member and Willow Canyon High School student Tanner Jensen recognized a need in the community and dedicated his scout project to collecting as much water as he could for the homeless and others in his neighborhood. Tanner asked for donations from family, friends, fellow church members and local Food Bank friends like Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club, Fry’s, Safeway, and Albertsons, they all made significant donations to the cause.

On May 23, Tanner arrived at the St. Mary’s Food Bank warehouse in Surprise location with his donation. Nearly 300 cases of bottled water – more than 7,000 bottles in all. This is a fabulous donation and will give St. Mary’s a great head start on our goal of making sure that those in need in our community stay hydrated during this long hot summer.

Thank you, Tanner. And thank you to Tanner’s family, friends, members of his congregation and all the local businesses that supported this impressive effort!

Thanks to our “Pardners” in Fighting Hunger for taking part in Rock N’ Box, Wild West Style!

It’s was another great Tuesday night at the Del E. Webb Distribution Center as more than 100 volunteers took part in Rock N’ Box “Wild West” night. Thousands of potatoes sorted and packed. Thousands of emergency food boxes filled.

We had both kinds of music – Country AND Western – blaring, enjoyed a great BBQ and fixins’ meal from CK Catering and shared a great night of helping the community. Special thanks to our friends from Arizona Fraud Investigators, Coca Cola, Peoria North Rotary Club, Phoenix Philanthropists. University of Phoenix Stadium and Walmart who had groups drop by to help St. Mary’s lasso hunger in the community.

Remember, Rock N’ Box happens every Tuesday night now through Sept. 25. In two weeks, the ever-popular Disco Night returns on Tuesday, June 12. Get our your boogie shoes and help your neighbors in need!
