Girl Scouts Mmmmilk Cookie and Shamrock Farms Milk Donation
The 100-degree temperatures aren’t the only signal that the long, hot summer is almost upon us. Donations to the Food Bank are down almost 30 percent compared to the same point last year, leaving St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance in a difficult position as the summer months beckon. Channel 3 reporter Yetta Gibson was at the food bank this morning to discuss the problem with St. Mary’s President and CEO Terry Shannon – Find out how you can help TODAY!
Every can of food feeds one person. Every dollar will feed seven. Think about a summer without air conditioning, or even a home. Please help us ease the burden on those in need and help St. Mary’s provide the food and water necessary to weather another long, hot summer.
St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance would like to thank Girl Scout Troop 2253 for collecting 588 pounds of food to help feed those in need in their community. These young ladies delivered their donation to the Food Bank recently and took part in a Hunger 101 lesson before touring the food bank to see how their donations will wind up on the tables of their neighbors.
Thank you ladies for this impressive and heart-felt donation!
An American tradition turns 100 this year – and is about to begin again.
The annual Girl Scouts cookie sale is about to entice the world with Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Trefoils, Dulce de Leche, Thank U Berry Munch, and the newest flavor, Savannah Smiles. And through the Gift of Caring program, the scouts make sure that those in need also share in the great flavors of the season.
St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance is bringing back a tradition of its own this year, inviting all Valley scouts, brownies, leaders and parents to visit our Del E. Webb Distribution Center (2831 N. 31st Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 8 a.m. to noon. Come join one of five different tours of the food bank, receive information on hunger in Arizona and tips on good nutrition from St. Mary’s Hunger 101 program and gain a better understanding of who benefits from this important Gift of Caring program.
Good luck on your cookie drive this year, and we hope to see you all on Jan. 28!
The St. Mary’s Food Bank’s Surprise location would like to that the leaders and members of Brownie Troop #1947 in Surprise for visiting us on Thursday and decorating our lobby for the holiday season.
The Girl Scout and Brownie Troops are always there to help the Food Bank, be it through their “Cookies and Milk” program each spring or their various other projects during the year. Thank you very much girls. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at St. Mary’s … thanks to YOU!
