Federal Employees Unite to Donate 60,000 pounds of Needed Items To Arizona’s Hungry during “Feds Feed Families” Summer Food Drive

Summer is always a tough time at St. Mary’s, when donations decline but the need increases for so many.  That’s why we are so thankful to the more than 20 local federal agencies that stepped up and made significant donations to the Food Bank as a part of Feds Feed Families, a national food drive for federal employees. Last year, the agencies in the Valley raised a little over 18,000 pounds for St. Mary’s but this year they went above and beyond by raising over 60,000 pounds of non-perishable food items!

One agency actually donated almost half of that amount alone! The Phoenix VA Health Care System showed up nearly every week at our warehouse with a new donation and brought in a total of 30,805 pounds of food and water. Two other agencies also gave amazing amounts; Luke Air Force Base Commissary with 11,830 pounds, and Transportation Security Administration out of Sky Harbor Airport with 12,672 pounds!

The Feds Feed Families food drive runs through the summer months and encourages federal agencies to donate to their local food bank. We are so thankful that these hard working federal employees chose St. Mary’s to benefit from their generosity. The food they donated goes directly into our Emergency Food Boxes and shows up on the plate of an Arizonan in need within three days of the donation. Thanks for helping us feed Arizona’s

Feds Feed Families food drive wrapping up soon in Arizona

For the fourth year in a row, federal employees are raising food for the hungry families in the United States. Feds Feed Families is a program that encourages federal agencies to gather and donate food to local food banks. Here in Arizona, we have 16 federal agencies working with St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance to alleviate hunger locally.

The drive has been running since June 1 and wraps up at the end of August. Already St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance has collected thousands of pounds to distribute to the 1 in 4 children, 1 in 5 adults, and 1 in 7 seniors in our state who face going to bed hungry tonight. Phoenix VA Health Care System alone has gathered over 10,000 pounds!

It’s not too late to donate! If you see your local federal agency is a part of this federal food drive, help them feed local hungry families.
