St. Mary’s not only distributes the gleaned citrus to Arizona’s hungry, but shares the bounty with food banks in others states – in the form or frozen juice. In return, states share their surplus fruits and vegetables with St. Mary’s to help provide a variety of nutritious items for all.
Please bring your extra citrus fruit to one of these three locations this Saturday, February 4, 2012 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to help this valley-wide gleaning effort for a cause.

St. Mary’s Food Bank thanks Channel 15 reporter and volunteer gleaning supporter Tim Vetscher and his group – ironically, 15 strong – for gleaning grapefruit trees last weekend to support the hungry. Vetscher’s gang had a great time gleaning a block of trees and they’ll be back again this weekend.
The Food Bank is still in need of more volunteers to keep up with the number of people who are asking the Food Bank to glean their trees this winter. The weather is fantastic and if you have a few hours, a day or a weekend – for yourself, a group, church or organization – gleaning is a great outdoor project with a great benefit to those in need. Just leave your contact information on our Citrus hotline at (602) 343-5658 and we’ll get right back with you. Gleaning season runs through March. Now is the time to help!
VIDEO & FOX 10 Story here
Our thanks to FOX 10 and reporter Kristin Anderson for coming out to Sun City today to do a fun story about the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance Gleaning Program. If you didn’t know how much fun this can be – or how many people you can help – you do now! Call our Citrus Hotline at 602-343-5658 if you can donate some time to the gleaning effort – or if you’d like to have your trees gleaned this winter and have the fruit go to a lot of people in need.
VIDEO Cory’s Corner: OSU Students Pick Citrus for SMFBA
Ready…Set…Glean! The calendar has turned to January and it’s 2012 which can mean only one thing. No, not that. No, not that either. We’ll give you a hint. Orange you ready to help St. Mary’s food Bank.
Gleaning season got off to a great start this morning with the students, alumni and fans of Oklahoma State University – fresh off Monday night’s thrilling overtime win over Stanford – rising, shining and gleaning citrus for St. Mary’s Food Bank Tuesday morning at Sahuaro Ranch Park. Cory McCloskey from FOX 10 was on the scene. And the line about sending a fruit basket to the Stanford kicker? Ouch Cory.
Thank you so much to all the OSU fans (orange is the color of hunger, so we’re a little partial anyway!) and congratulations to coach Mike Gundy and the Cowboys on a fantastic 12-1 season.
