Welcome to the World's First Food Bank!

Programs - Westside Location: Emergency Food Box (EFB)

This program provides nutritionally balanced food to families and individuals who need immediate help toward stabilizing an acute situation until a long-term solution can be established. These boxes provided a nutritionally balanced 3-to-5 day supply of food to approximately 150,000 people in 2004.

Crisis situations can occur due to: no income; delayed, lost or stolen paycheck, social security check or food stamps; death or desertion of a wage earner; illness causing a special hardship; fire or crime. Each month our volunteers pack more than 5,000 emergency food boxes for families in crisis. During 2004 we saw a 20% increase in demand for emergency food.
