Phoenix Public Library ‘Food For Fines’ Program Collects a Record 26,000 Pounds in Donations

St. Mary’s Food Bank would like to thank the Phoenix Public Libraries for an overwhelming 2011 “Food For Fines” food drive to benefit the hungry of Arizona.

Always a popular event with those who have strayed a bit with their library fines or simply wish to help the food bank, this year the 12 public library branches in the Phoenix system combined to collect more than 26,000 pounds of non-perishable food. That’s the most ever collected in the history of this program, which has collected more than 150,000 pounds of food in his history.

To everyone at the Phoenix Public Libraries who took part in this program and took on the task of collecting and storing the food to those who donated, St. Mary’s is very grateful for this significant donation as we head into the difficult summer months. These donations will help fill emergency food boxes and feed the hungry right away.
