The Daily Platter is the blog of St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, located in Phoenix, Arizona.
For the 14th year, Cigna and Cigna Medical Group held their Scrub Hunger Food and Fund Drive Campaign benefiting St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. All 31 Cigna locations across the Valley of the Sun participated in the food and fund drive from October 29 to November 30.
This was a record-breaking year for Scrub Hunger! Organizers at Cigna set goals for each location with an overall goal to raise $32,000. Last year they collected $32,445, and their all-time record year was $34,000. But this year the Cigna folks surpassed that record and have brought in $40,665, with money still coming in! Plus, more than 4,000 lbs of non-perishable items were also collected.
With St. Mary’s ability to turn $1 into seven meals, the amount of meals Cigna collected is 288,999! This goes a long way in helping us provide nourishing food for the 1 in 4 children in Arizona who face hunger on a daily basis.
Cigna motivated their staff by being creative with their food and fund drive. Some of the things they did to bring in food and funds were hosting bake sales and basket raffles, offering dress down days for donations, and selling ‘cake pops.’ The Cigna organizers, Alex Klein and Mary Mercer, do an amazing job every year making this a fun campaign for a good cause.
Everyone at St. Mary’s thanks the generous supporters at Cigna for doing their part in alleviating hunger in Arizona.
