THE IDEA:

Only through information and knowledge can we even begin to eliminate poverty, food insecurity, and hunger.

Hunger 101 strives to increase public awareness of hunger and poverty in Arizona and nationwide by:

- Educating children and adults to the realities of hunger, poverty, and food insecurity.

- Starting conversations about poverty and hunger.

- Empowering people to participate in solutions to eliminate food insecurity, hunger, and poverty.

- Spurring people of all ages to take action to fight food insecurity, hunger, and poverty.

Each Hunger 101 program and presentation is tailored for a specific age group, from young children to adults of all ages.

THE FACTS:

• 800,027 Arizonans live in poverty, 1 in 7 residents of the state’s total   population.

312,966 Arizona children under age 18 live in poverty, representing 1 in 5   of Arizona’s children.

In Arizona, 1 in 12 people, age 65 and older, live in poverty

By 2010, experts estimate one million Arizonans will live in poverty.
