Agencies: What to expect at an agency inspection?

St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance requires its partner agencies to maintain certain standards. These standards are set up for the safety and health of its agencies and the clients they serve. Inspections can be easy and a good opportunity for the agency to ask any questions they may have. Here is some insight on agency inspections:

Step 1:

An Agency Relations representative from the Food Bank will set up an appointment with your agency, preferably during a time when services are being provided.

Step 2

The date, time and type of service provided by your agency will be confirmed.

Step 3

At the time of inspection the Food Bank representative will:

  • Discuss and review your record-keeping practices.

  • Review and confirm that all certificates are current, such as restaurant manager certificates and food handler cards.

  • Check for cleanliness, evidence of pests, check temperatures of refrigerator and freezer, proper pantry and chemical storage, general food handling practices and inventory control.

  • Talk to the agency about its program's five-year vision for the future.

  • Review available programs with the agency to see if there are other services offered by the Food Bank that the agency can use.

Step 4

Sometimes, the Food Bank will do unannounced, drop-in visits, as well.
